Is Evolution Really True?

Is it really true that human beings evolved from “ape like” creatures, which evolved from other animals, which evolved from single cells, which evolved from life-less matter? And what about the life-less matter, where did that come from?

Although many would like to say that Evolution is a fact, the Oxford dictionary of Science still labels it a theory, and defines a theory as “a description of nature…that has not achieved the uncontrovertible status of a law.”[1] Now, while all scientists believe in micro-evolution (the adaptation of species to their environment) not all believe in macro-evolution (where species change into a new species).

Consider the following definition of evolution by the late evolutionary biologist and paleontologist who taught at Harvard University and worked at the American Museum of Natural History in New York:
We humans “are here because one odd group of fishes had a peculiar fin anatomy that could transform into legs for terrestrial creatures because the earth never froze entirely during an ice age because a small and tenuous species, arising in Africa a quarter of a million years ago, has managed, so far, to survive by hook and by crook. We may yearn for a higher answer – but none exists.”[2]

And even though we hear much these days about Biological evolution, do we ever hear that much regarding Astronomical evolution, Geological evolution, or what about the new science of Psychological evolution? For if evolution is to be a complete theory, it has to also answer the questions of: where our Universe came from, how life sprang from non-living matter, or even how our personality evolved? Regarding Astronomical evolution Gould went on to say:
When a comet hit the earth 65 million years ago, thus eliminating the dinosaurs and making possible the rise of the mammals, “In an entirely literal sense, we owe our existence, as large and reasoning mammals to our lucky stars.”[3]

Should we really, as the old saying goes, be “thanking our lucky stars above”?!? Or consider what astrophysicist Jeff Zweerink says regarding the formation of our Moon:
Two critical events happened over the next 500 million years. First, around 100 million years after Earth formed, a large Mars-sized object collided with Earth. This impact event increased Earth’s mass, added radioactive elements to Earth’s interior, and – most importantly – made the Moon.[4]

Can we really say that a large planetary collision increased the size of Earth and created our Moon, whose gravitational pull we rely on heavily to produce the ocean tides? Theses two descriptions of Astronomical evolution seem to rely to a great degree on chance and lucky circumstance!

Regarding Psychological evolution, the preeminent Christian philosopher Alvin Plantinga states:
In essence, evolutionary psychology is an attempt to explain important human traits and behaviors in terms of the evolutionary origin of the human species…distinctive human traits such as – our art, humor, play, love, sexual behavior, poetry, sense of adventure, love of stories, our music, our morality, and our religion itself – in terms of adaptive advantages accruing to our hunter-gather ancestors back there on the plains of Serengeti.[5]

Is it really by chance that human traits such as the love of stories, sexual behavior, and even “love” itself have evolved?!?

On another note, what about Dr. Francis Collins (who was appointed as the director of the National Institutes of Health by Barack Obama) and the BioLogos organization, which is a Christian organization that seeks to teach theistic-evolution (that God used evolution to create mankind)? Do they not see the phrase repeated over-and-over again in the book of Genesis that states that God created plants and animals “according to their kind”? In other words, God did not use evolution!

In all fairness, the Bible states that God was the one who created the Universe, animals, and humans. Then, when man disobeyed God, and rebelled from God’s love, God came to earth as a man, Jesus, and died to redeem us from our sins! Have you believed on Jesus? Biblical belief & faith is trusting your life into your Creator’s hands. Allowing Jesus to become the Lord of your life will save your soul and give you everlasting life!
